June has been a busy month in Nova Scotia with lots of great riding weather and events to enjoy.
The annual Ride for Sight Weekend took place from June 4-6th and the winner of their Vulcan 900 Custom Bike Draw was Bob MacNeil of Sackville. Sorry we missed the festivities, but we were on our way to Lake George, New York for the Americade.

We were booth #1 at the forum during the 2010 Americade and had a great time all week speaking to thousands about riding to Nova Scotia this summer. We were so busy we didn’t get a chance to visit the vendors at the beach area, but Harold still took lots of photos from our vendor area at the forum and during our rides down the main drag…Canada Street.
Visit our photo section and view the motorcycles, crowds and exhibits on display.

Earlier this year in May, a fire destroyed 5 motorcycles and the S & S Custom Motorcycle shop of Sean Wallace of Weymouth. On June 26th the DC Riders of Digby are hosting a benefit at the Digby Fire Hall from 10am till 3pm, to help Sean and Sue get back on their feet after this tragedy. So come and show your support, and bring your old bike parts, home-baked goodies or anything for the auction. Live music and BBQ will be on site and all donations are gratefully accepted.
For more information contact Andrew Maves at 902-245-1918 or 902-245-4634.
Remember all current rallies and events are at your fingertips by clicking on Rallies & Events at the top of our homepage banner.

This year’s spring is looking great and our riding season has arrived early for those braving the nippy temperatures.
But as you are out and cruising around, watch out for leftover sand and salt from the winter along the roads and especially on the corners.
For those of you who haven’t sprung into action yet, here are a few tips to ensure your riding season is a safe one:
- Give your motorcycle a thorough cleaning to expose any leaks and loose or missing bolts.
- Change your oil and top up all fluids.
- Check your battery. If it doesn’t hold a charge, replace it and save yourself the grief of becoming stranded roadside.
- Check your tire pressure and examine your tread for wear or damage. All these factors directly affect your steering, handling and braking abilities.
- Ensure your helmet is DOT approved and check your safety inspection and registration stickers. Unnecessary fines are a rotten way to start the season.
- Get your riding gear ready. Quality jackets, pants, gloves and boots ensure both your comfort and safety.
- If you find your vision isn’t what it used to be, an eye checkup may be in order. Remember what you see may not be what you’re getting.
- Try a little mental and physical tune-up. Find a vacant parking lot and practice hard braking, swerving and tight turns for an hour or so.
- While on the road, keep asking yourself “what if?” …that car turns unexpectedly? …that dog runs out in front of me?
- Stay alert and remember when a problem occurs in front of you, focus on a safe path through it. Your motorcycle will go where you look.
- An extra ignition key can be a real lifesaver. Hide one on your motorcycle, in your jacket or gear.
- A small flashlight is easy to pack and could become your best friend if your bike dies after sunset.
- Ear plugs will eliminate that ringing in your ears at the end of the day and prevent hearing damage.
- A few feet of trusty duct tape wrapped around a tool handle can fix just about anything and takes up virtually no space.
- Keep water on board and hydrate often to keep refreshed and alert. You will also feel less tired at the end of the day’s ride.
Now is the time to start planning your rides for the summer, beginning with the annual Blessing of the Bikes in Truro on May 1st.
